Main Presentation Highlights:

Commissioning for Industrial Refrigeration Systems: Welcome to the Wild West

ASHRAE Guideline 0 marks 1982 as the birth of the commissioning process, yet 30 years later the commissioning concept is still in its infancy for the refrigeration industry, commercial and industrial. This presentation, by an industrial refrigeration engineer with a toe in the HVAC industry, seeks to explore the roadblocks being established by the refrigeration industry to full scale commissioning. Some excuses will be all too familiar to commissioning veterans. Others are valid grievances to shoehorning refrigeration systems, with their often unique purpose and design, into the rigid framework of commissioning. Finally, parallels were drawn between the commissioning and regulatory processes already being implemented by the refrigeration industry.
