About the Speakers:

Svien Morner, HGA - Svein Morner, PE, PhD. is a Principal with HGA. and was a founder of Sustainable Engineering Group.  His main interest throughout his career been have been energy efficiency and renewable energy as a mechanical engineer and commissioning authority. He is a voting member of ASHRAE TC 6.7 Solar and Other Renewable Energies and an active member of TC2.8 Buildings Environmental Impact and TC 7.9 Commissioning. HGA is a national A/E firm with offices in the Northeast, Midwest and California.

Scott Hackel and Joe Zhou, Slipstream - Slipstream, formerly known as Seventhwave, has a deep history of applied research in commercial buildings including ASHRAE research projects. Presenting from Slipstream will be Scott Hackel, Director of Research and Innovation, who has been with Slipstream for 11 years and is active in geothermal, energy, and smart building technical committees for ASHRAE. And Joe Zhou, Senior Research Engineer. Joe has conducted many ASHRAE-funded research projects both with Slipstream and with the Iowa Energy Center before that, and is active in a number of AHRAE committees including control theory and smart buildings.

Mike Meteyer, Erdman - ERDMAN has been providing innovative solutions to heath care facilities through design and construction for over 50 years.  Mike is ERDMAN’s HVAC engineering manager. For the past 30 years, his career has been 100% devoted to improving health care facility outcomes through HVAC designs and leadership. He has participated in hundreds of health care facility projects of all types.  Mike has been active in ASHRAE TC 9.6 Health Care Facilities since its inception and is a former Chair. HE currently is a voting a member of Standard 170 Ventilation of Health Care Facilities.  He has been an advocate for improving healthcare facilities HVAC design and has presented at numerous ASHRAE seminars. Mike contributed to the publications Advance Energy Design Guide for Small Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities and ASHRAE’s 2nd edition of HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Health Care Facilities.  More recently he co-authored an ASHRAE Journal article titled Thermal Comfort in Health-Care Settings.  He is a former President of the Madison ASHRAE chapter and a registered engineer in over 40 states and is a LEED AP Building Design +Construction.

Fred Betz, Affiliated Engineers - Affiliated Engineers, Inc. is a leading full service engineering firm ranked #1 in Science and Technology and top 5 in Healthcare by Building Design and Construction. Affiliated Engineers is active on numerous ASHRAE committees and research projects. Dr. Betz leads the Madison Building Performance Practice for Affiliated Engineers and is chair of ASHRAE 191P Standard for the Efficient Use of Water in Building Mechanical Systems and active on TC 2.8 Building Environmental Impacts and Sustainability.
