Meeting - 12:00 Noon
Thermal Flywheeling in Refrigerated Warehouses
Presentation:
Thermal energy storage within the cold-storage warehousing sector offers an exciting opportunity for cost reduction and grid stability. The U.S. food supply is one of the largest readily-accessible energy storage mediums in the world, and it can be unlocked primarily with software. This talk will present the theory of flywheeling, data from its application in the field, financial results, as well as thoughts on what’s in store for the refrigeration industry and beyond.
Silent auction wrap-up and socializing 5:00 pm to 5:30
Presenter: Alex Woolf
Alex serves as the Vice President of Research and Development at Lineage Logistics, the world’s largest cold-storage warehousing provider, where he oversees energy initiatives. Lineage was named #1 in Data Science and #23 overall by Fast Company in 2019. Lineage was also named #31 in Fortune’s 2020 “Change the World” list. Alex is the inventor of Lineage’s patented flywheeling technology (US 10,323,878 B) which was a winner of the 2019 Better Practice Awards by the U.S. Department of Energy. Alex holds an undergraduate degree in Physics from UCSB and a PhD in Applied Physics from Harvard University.
