September 2020

President’s Message

I hope that everybody had an enjoyable summer, and I am looking forward to connecting with you virtually to start off our ASHRAE year!

This year will begin much differently than previous years, however our BOG and committee chairs have been working hard this summer and are excited to march forward with our plans this fall. Despite our current in-person limitations, we plan to provide our chapter with educational and timely programming, and some opportunities to network and discuss. And I am looking forward to the day that we can meet again in person.

Please see below and join us for our first ASHRAE chapter meeting on September 14th from 12-1pm CST to learn more about the Government Affairs efforts in WI, and stay tuned for announcements on our upcoming October and November meetings!

Main Presentation - 12:00 pm - ASHRAE Pandemic Task Force-Government Affairs

About The Presenters:

Our September general meeting will start with a review of the findings and resources available from the Pandemic Task Force. Then the ASHRAE government affairs committee will make a special presentation to our members regarding the critical task of increasing the visibility of ASHRAE among state and local decision-makers. Next we’ll discuss ways we can raise political leaders’ awareness of the collective knowledge and expertise of ASHRAE. Decision-makers need to know that we have the resources to offer advice and guidance in these matters right here in our professional community.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light the harsh reality that policymakers like school boards and local governments are making decisions with little or no knowledge regarding the role that HVAC systems might play in the spread or containment of infectious disease. For example, the minimally effective window units in an older, landmark school building might actually contribute to spreading the virus. Nor will they be aware of the modifications or changes that should be undertaken in schools with more modern HVAC systems.

Along with many conferences contending with the continued unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the "Vision 2020" Region VI CRC has been reenvisioned to become a fully virtual event.

Rather than 2.5 glorious days spent basking in the beauty of Peoria, Illinois, conference attendees will have the opportunity to pick and choose from workshops and webinars spread across 2.5 weeks from the comfort of their own desks (kitchen tables, couches, etc.)!

Thanks to our supportive sponsors, speakers and Region officers for making this transformation possible!
